Synthesis of Oxalate from CO<sub>2</sub> and Cesium Carbonate Supported Over Porous Carbon

Oxalic acid is an attractive chemical platform potentially available from CO2 due to its established applications and characteristics enabling it serve as a mediator in hydrometallurgy including iron-making. However, method for synthesizing oxalic has yet be established. In the present work, formation of oxalate scaffold during heating cesium carbonate (Cs2CO3) presence H2 reactants was experimentally investigated with particular focus on influence supporting Cs2CO3 over porous materials. Among support materials examined, activated carbon (AC) had notable effect improving reaction rate yield total carboxylates (formate oxalate) experiments autoclave. An important problem dominant formate, intermediate between oxalate, accounting 90% carboxylates. Changing conditions, temperature, time, partial pressure gas components, amount loaded Cs2CO3, did not alter situation. Alternatively, re-heating formate-rich salts AC under CO enhanced fraction while maintaining yield. Benefiting employment material, two-step conversion carried out using gas-flow type reactor packed bed supported AC. this system, because water, acting promoter, absent, lower than that autoclave, higher, being 71.8% 43.2% Cs2CO3-carbon basis.
